A handmade photograph on an aluminium plate in the wet collodion process from 1851. There is no copy; every image is unique. An ambrotype, by contrast, is a silver image on glass, made with the same photographic means.
I always recommend wearing clothes you feel comfortable in, such as your favourite jumper or a nice shirt. Collodion renders blue very light and red tones very dark. Patterns usually work well. If your glasses are so-called “screen glasses” with a blue-light filter, we should find an alternative, as they would otherwise reflect strongly.
I work with ventilation and continuous light, and I have already photographed babies as young as 7 weeks in natural light. Good to know: with an exposure time of 3–7 seconds, your child should sit still.
